Here is a life story of a family that found God’s faithfulness in their lives as they struggle to carry on during the 2007 Recession.
Life, as they say, is like a wheel. Sometimes you are up, sometimes you are down. In the case of this brother I met, Al, he was on the most top part of his wheel last 2006 – around 9 years ago – with his wife and two children, and they were about to buy their second house here in Canada.
It was year 2001 when brother Al arrived here in Canada, and got reunited with his wife. By then he landed on a job where he got enough sustenance for him and his wife and first child.
His job, together with his wife’s job, was able to give them a house, a car. A good life. He worked at Coca-Cola Distributions as a hard-working associate. They were about to buy their second house when he got laid-off because of the recession. That was year 2007.
Brother Al lost his job and his supposedly second house. Financially speaking, they were at the bottom on their wheel. Also, brother Al was just about to have his third child with his wife. So his wife is on maternal leave.
Flat tire.
“In life, you need to make choices. If you don’t have another choice, then at least choose to live.”
Was all I got from brother Al. I didn’t know how big of a difference this line was to someone’s life, until I actually heard their testimony.
During those tough times, brother Al worked on at least 21 different companies, experienced at least 21 different jobs. From boxing and wrapping things to feeding chickens in poultries. He did these all not for himself any more, but for his family.
He might have lost his pride, his financial stability, but he gained something way better than those. He learned of God’s faithfulness in his life and his family during these tough times.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” — Jeremiah 29:11-13 NIV
God’s faithfulness in your life should not only be recognized during the good times. It should also be recognized during the tough times.
Brother Al held on God’s promises for him and his family, and now, he is happily living together with his wife and his three children. They were able to upgrade their house and double it’s value, they just got their second car, and they have a job that they love and are contented with. What’s even better, they always have their Saturday-Night-Movie-Night at home – and complete. Since then, he never forgot to thank the Lord for continually being with them in all circumstances.
Thank You Lord!
