Comparison Won’t Get You Beyond The Horizon
Last Friday was such a blessing! I was able to worship together with Pat Barret and Dan Bremnes and the band as they visited Canada for their tour. The atmosphere was different, seeing and hearing some of the worshippers whom I only listen to on Spotify worship live. It was as if the songs they have written came to life. Thank You Lord, and glory to you alone!
During one of the talks in between his singing, Pat called out to the crowd if anyone is a worship singer and a composer, and my heart leaped. “He is talking about me!” my thought said, even as many other people in the crowd have raised their hands. And then he went along and mentioned about one of his testimonies about writing his original songs and compositions for the Lord.
There was a time while he was driving in his car and listening to worship songs, when he suddenly thought, “Why didn’t I write these songs?” He wished he has written those worship songs instead! And that small thought made him to think of how other musicians have better songs and music, and that his are not the best. “I wanted some ‘Phil Wickham or Chris Tomlin’ type of songs, too!” he said. That thought spiraled to his mind, that it paralyzed him. He started comparing himself to others.
In his moments, while writing, the Lord reminded him that he has his own time and season in the songs he wrote. And that instead of comparing himself to others, that he should look at himself as how the Lord looks at him. A canvas. A clay. A masterpiece, yet to be perfected in time.
God is our artist and our potter, and He is not finished with us yet! Spot comparing yourselves to others and focus on how God is using, molding and transforming you to be the best version you ought to be – for His pleasures and glory.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” – Romans 12:2
Let God paint your story and let him form you into a blessed art piece, made beautiful in His time. Thank You Lord.
We will not be the ones who will move our mountains. God will. So instead, let’s bring unto him our faith even as small as a mustard. With no reserve, watch how he will transform you and your situation. Bless God!
P.S. – Sir Pat, if you only knew, you are like Chris Tomlin to me! I am so blessed to live in the same generation as you are, and yes, rather that comparing, I am inspired to see people like who write and sing songs for God and His glory! Bless God!
